Week 5 wrap
No more unbeatens and a five-way tie at 4–1. Last week’s worst lineup turned in a perfect one, Da’ Bills lost by 0.44, and the commissioner’s new QB had a big week.

League power rankings
Record tells you what happened. The power rankings try to tell you what happens next. Everyone is ranked on their full-season all-play record (your record if you’d played all 13 teams every week), with season points as the tiebreaker, then checked against lineup ceiling, projections and who’s banged up.

Season pts against is the total your opponents have scored against you, Weeks 1–5. Pts vs projection is your season points minus the total of your weekly Yahoo projections: positive means you’re outscoring your roster on paper.
The top 5
1. Eventual Winner (4–1) ▲
Last week they left 40.40 on the bench. This week: 139.34, a perfect lineup and the week’s high score. Gibbs went for 35.20 and Parker Washington scored twice. Somebody read the bulletin. With Weeks 1 and 2 counted, they have the league’s best all-play record (56–9) and the most points (622.30). They had the top score in both of the first two weeks, so they were 26–0 in all-play before anyone else got going. Gibbs is on bye in Week 6, though.
2. 99 Problems But Hurts Ain’t 1 (4–1) ▬
First loss, and the roster took some hits. Lamb (quad) scored 1.90 and Deebo (hamstring) 1.50, and Deebo is likely out until Week 9. Isaiah Likely (26.90) kept them in it. They still played a 98.9% efficient lineup and ran into a buzzsaw. Over the full season they’re 49–16 in all-play with the second-most points, so the start was no fluke.
3. Maye-day (4–1) ▼
The unbeaten run is over, and the full season knocks them down a peg. They have the best all-play record of the last three weeks (32–7), but Week 2 was 3–10 in all-play and a 75.40 to 72.92 escape against JR. They lost this week by 2.86 with 9.12 on the bench (Flournoy 10.50 and Malik Washington 9.10 sat while Pollard and Michael Wilson combined for 10.48). Monangai is out until Week 7 or 8 with turf toe, and the Week 6 bye takes Jameson Williams, Ollie Gordon and Malik Washington. Thin week ahead. They’ve also had the league’s easiest ride: 432.68 points against, the fewest of anyone.
4. Mahomes Alone (4–1) ▲
130.10 and 12–1 in all-play. Burrow threw four TDs, Braelon Allen (18.10) and Aaron Jones (17.20) ran wild, and JSN and Jefferson were both 15+. Weeks 1 and 2 help too: 20–6 in all-play, including a 129.06 in Week 1. Now the bad news: Burrow, Jefferson and Aaron Jones are all on bye in Week 6. Good luck setting that lineup.
5. NKOTB Reunion Tour (1–4) ▼
38–27 in all-play on the season, and 1–4. They lost Week 2 by 1.88 (123.96 to 122.08), and nobody in the league has had more scored against them: 596.56, almost 50 more than anyone else. Jaylen Warren (33.80) and Puka (29.20) were monsters this week. The rest of the lineup was not.
The messy middle (6–9)
6. FromManningtoMahomes (3–2) ▬
20–6 in all-play over the last two weeks, second only to Maye-day. Won comfortably even with Jayden Daniels’ 32.26 on the bench. Weeks 1 and 2 were two losses and 13–13 in all-play, which holds them at #6. With Goff on bye, Daniels finally gets the call in Week 6.
7. Dakstreet Boys (3–2) ▲
Handed Maye-day their first loss behind Bucky Irving’s 30.50, and moved up three spots. 33–32 in all-play on the season: the definition of average, in a good way.
8. Raw Dawgs (4–1) ▼
4–1, but they went 2–11 in all-play this week and won with 85.98. Pat Freiermuth’s 19.00 sat on the bench. They’re 32–33 in all-play on the season, but only 473.46 points have been scored against them, the second-fewest in the league. The record is ahead of the team.
9. drama_kings (1–4) ▲
A 1–4 team in the middle tier. They put up 101.96 and 114.52 in Weeks 1 and 2 and lost both, and this week’s 105.00 ran into a perfect 139.34. 29–36 in all-play says they deserve better. Henderson’s high ankle sprain is going to hurt.
The bottom 5
10. Da’ Bills (0–5) ▼
0–5 and 25–40 in all-play. The 68.64 in Week 1 didn’t help. More on that below.
11. Da Dawg Pound (3–2) ▲
Your commissioner got lucky. The Drake Maye trade happened to land right before his best game of the year, 39.46, and the schedule happened to put NKOTB across from him. That’s pure timing. It could just as easily have gone the other way, and NKOTB made a fair deal in good faith. Still only 23–42 in all-play on the season. The two early wins came with 100.54 and 83.90, against Da’ Bills’ 68.64 and Titan Up’s 63.56. Chase Brown and LaPorta are both on bye in Week 6. Up two spots anyway.
12. JR (1–4) ▼
83.40 and 1–12 in all-play. Benched Kyler Murray (18.26) for Michael Penix (14.40) and lost by 2.58. Then dropped Penix and Mark Andrews. Their 117.46 in Week 1 was their only win. Amon-Ra and Murray are on bye next week.
13. FridayNightLights (2–3) ▲
A win is a win, even by 0.44. Christian Watson (29.30) did the heavy lifting. Still 17–48 in all-play on the season, and the 115.96 in Week 1 is their only score over 90.
14. Titan Up (1–4) ▼
The week’s low score (81.14) and 0–13 in all-play. Kamara 1.60, Tate 1.10, Kupp 2.50. 9–56 in all-play on the season and the fewest points. Rough.
This week’s headlines
- No more unbeatens. Maye-day and 99 Problems both lost. That leaves a five-way tie at 4–1: Maye-day, 99 Problems, Eventual Winner, Raw Dawgs and Mahomes Alone.
- Eventual Winner went from worst to first. From 68.7% lineup efficiency to a perfect lineup and the week’s high score, 139.34. That’s 28.27 over projection.
- Da’ Bills are 0–5 after losing by 0.44. DeMario Douglas (20.50) and Hunter Henry (11.90) were on their bench.
- The commissioner caught a break. Drake Maye’s first week on Da Dawg Pound was a 39.46, and it happened to come against his trade partner, NKOTB. That’s timing and luck, not genius. Hampton, Concepcion and Nix have plenty of season left to even it out.
- Three games were decided by under 3 points: FNL over Da’ Bills by 0.44, Raw Dawgs over JR by 2.58, Dakstreet over Maye-day by 2.86.
- Jaylen Warren made NFL history with an 80-yard TD catch and a 50-yard TD run in the same game. Only the sixth player ever, joining Jim Brown, Gale Sayers and Herschel Walker. 33.80 for NKOTB.
Matchup of the week
FridayNightLights 89.44 — Da’ Bills 89.00
Da’ Bills came in 0–4 and projected for 101.10. They lost by 0.44 points.
Here’s what was on their bench: DeMario Douglas 20.50 (two TDs). Hunter Henry 11.90.
And in the lineup: Devaughn Vele 4.60. George Kittle 4.90.
That’s 22.90 points left on the bench. A perfect lineup scores 111.90 and wins by 22.
Then they dropped DeMario Douglas.
Credit to FridayNightLights. Christian Watson caught 6 for 143 and 2 TDs (29.30), and they played a 99.7% efficient lineup. After a 66.52 last week, that’s progress.
FNL to 2–3. Da’ Bills to 0–5, and last week’s ‘Hard Luck Manager’ talk is officially over. This one was self-inflicted.
Team of the week
Eventual Winner — 139.34
Projected for 111.07. Scored 139.34. That’s +28.27, and a perfect lineup.
Jahmyr Gibbs 35.20 (151 rushing yards and 2 TDs). Parker Washington 27.40 (6 catches, 124 yards, 2 TDs). C.J. Stroud 20.94. Davante Adams 19.60 (2 TDs). J.K. Dobbins 14.40.
13–0 in all-play. The only weak spot was Harold Fannin Jr. at TE (0.90), and nobody on the bench could have done better.
One week after leaving 40.40 points on the bench, they left zero. Up from #5 to #1.
Lineup efficiency — who left points on the bench?
Same exercise as last week: the optimal lineup from the players actually on each Week 5 roster.
| Team | Actual | Optimal | Left on bench | Efficiency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eventual Winner | 139.34 | 139.34 | 0.00 | 100.0% |
| FridayNightLights | 89.44 | 89.74 | 0.30 | 99.7% |
| 99 Problems But Hurts Ain’t 1 | 100.10 | 101.20 | 1.10 | 98.9% |
| Dakstreet Boys | 119.54 | 123.34 | 3.80 | 96.9% |
| Titan Up | 81.14 | 84.04 | 2.90 | 96.5% |
| Mahomes Alone | 130.10 | 134.90 | 4.80 | 96.4% |
| NKOTB Reunion Tour | 102.66 | 107.36 | 4.70 | 95.6% |
| drama_kings | 105.00 | 110.20 | 5.20 | 95.3% |
| Maye-day | 116.68 | 125.80 | 9.12 | 92.8% |
| Da Dawg Pound | 113.46 | 126.26 | 12.80 | 89.9% |
| FromManningtoMahomes | 103.94 | 119.56 | 15.62 | 86.9% |
| JR | 83.40 | 98.06 | 14.66 | 85.0% |
| Raw Dawgs | 85.98 | 107.18 | 21.20 | 80.2% |
| Da’ Bills | 89.00 | 111.90 | 22.90 | 79.5% |
Honourable mention: FromManningtoMahomes benched Jayden Daniels (32.26). Goff’s 28.94 made that one forgivable. Starting Doubs (2.10) and Metcalf (3.80) over Shakir (9.50) and Bateman (8.70) was not.
Would any results have changed?
YES. TWO, AND ALMOST THREE.
Da’ Bills vs. FridayNightLights. Actual: FridayNightLights 89.44, Da’ Bills 89.00. Both teams optimal: Da’ Bills 111.90, FridayNightLights 89.74. Da’ Bills would be 1–4. Instead they’re the only winless team in the league.
Maye-day vs. Dakstreet Boys. Actual: Dakstreet Boys 119.54, Maye-day 116.68. Both teams optimal: Maye-day 125.80, Dakstreet Boys 123.34. Maye-day would still be 5–0 and alone at the top. Flournoy and Malik Washington on the bench cost them the unbeaten season.
JR vs. Raw Dawgs. Actual: Raw Dawgs 85.98, JR 83.40. If JR had played their best lineup: 98.06, a comfortable win. But Raw Dawgs left even more on their bench. Both teams optimal: Raw Dawgs 107.18, JR 98.06, so it doesn’t officially count.
Every other Week 5 matchup stays the same.
Week 5 lineup-efficiency champion: Eventual Winner at 100%. The “please check your damn lineup” award goes to Da’ Bills at 79.5%.
Stat lines of the week
THE GOOD
Drake Maye (Da Dawg Pound) — 374 pass yds, 4 TD, plus 25 rush yds and a rushing TD — 39.46 pts
THE BAD
CeeDee Lamb (99 Problems But Hurts Ain’t 1) — 2 catches, 9 yds on 5 targets, then a quad injury — 1.90 pts (a week after 17 catches)
THE UGLY
Harold Fannin Jr. (Eventual Winner) — 1 catch, 4 yds on 4 targets — 0.90 pts
0-point starter club: Ted Hurst III (Da Dawg Pound). Yes, the commissioner. I know.
Stock up / stock down
▲ Stock up
- Jaylen Warren — 15 carries for 101 yards and a TD, 6 catches for 87 yards and a TD, 33.80 points. Sixth player in NFL history with an 80-yard TD catch and a 50-yard TD run in the same game.
- Bucky Irving — 165 rushing yards, two TDs (one rushing, one receiving), 30.50 points. Back to his rookie-year form, and the Bucs’ red-zone back. He looks like a borderline RB1 going forward.
- Drake Maye — 39.46 points. The first three weeks’ struggles are behind him, and A.J. Brown should be back soon.
- Isaiah Likely — 11 catches, 2 TDs, 26.90 points. Winston threw 54 times and Likely owned the middle of the field. He limped off in overtime, so watch the practice reports.
- Jayden Daniels — 103 rushing yards and two long TD runs in his first game back from the dislocated elbow. 32.26 points, from FromManningtoMahomes’ bench.
- Christian Watson — 6 catches, 143 yards, 2 TDs. The Packers’ deep passing game is rolling, and the Cowboys’ defense is up next.
- Braelon Allen — 24 carries, 116 yards and the game-winning TD against the Browns. He’s playing well enough to stay involved when Breece Hall returns.
▼ Stock down
- CeeDee Lamb — Last week, 17 catches. This week, 2 for 9 and a bruised quad.
- David Montgomery — 1.10 points and a groin injury. Projected back in Week 9.
- Alvin Kamara — 1.60 points. Kendre Miller took the red-zone work. He’s starting to look droppable.
- Mark Andrews — A bad drop, a fumble and 2.80 points from JR’s flex. JR had seen enough and cut him.
- Cam Skattebo — 6.10 points and an overtime fumble that cost the Giants a shot at the game-winning field goal. The Giants may rethink the backfield split.
- Dalton Kincaid — Quiet for the third straight week. 3.20 points. If he doesn’t produce against the Raiders (six TDs allowed to tight ends already), it may be time to move on.
- Omarion Hampton — 14 carries for 33 yards, 4.40 points. Still waiting for something to change in that offense.
Commissioner’s hot take
Jaylen Warren is a top-10 running back the rest of the way.
He has an 80-yard catch and a 50-yard run in the same game. The last guy to do that was Herschel Walker in 1986.
Rico Dowdle is on IR. Aaron Rodgers has thrown three TDs in three straight games, which keeps defenses honest. Warren gets the carries and the catches.
33.80 points of proof. NKOTB, with Montgomery out until Week 9, you’re going to need him.
Waiver wire watch
QB
Tyler Huntley (BAL) — 24.04 points, a rushing TD and two passing TDs, and he’s a free agent. If Lamar sits again, Huntley starts against the Browns. (Not that I want him to do well.)
Michael Penix Jr. (ATL) — Dropped by JR. Rib injury, but he’s expected to play in Week 6 against the Bears.
Malik Willis (MIA) — 20.88 points in garbage time. On bye in Week 6, but worth stashing if you don’t like your QB.
WR
DeMario Douglas (NE) — 20.50 points and 2 TDs, then dropped by Da’ Bills. On waivers. With A.J. Brown and Mack Hollins out, he’s a viable flex against the Jets.
Kyle Williams (NE) — 3 catches, 91 yards, a TD, 16.60 points. Free agent.
Brandin Cooks (SF) — Replaced Deebo (out until Week 9) and scored. Worth a waiver look.
RB
Tyrone Tracy Jr. (NYG) — The only Giants back “showing any juice.” A deep-league stash after Skattebo’s fumble.
Stay away: Will Shipley is on waivers again, but he has a torn plantar fascia and is projected out until Week 11.
ALREADY GONE
Woody Marks (drama_kings) is the top waiver target with Montgomery out. Pat Freiermuth (Raw Dawgs), Tyler Higbee (Da Dawg Pound), Kyle Pitts (Titan Up), Ryan Flournoy (Maye-day), Germie Bernard (JR) and Kimani Vidal (Mahomes Alone) are all rostered. Dameon Pierce, the Eagles’ next man up, just went to Eventual Winner.

Still out from last week’s list: Saquon Barkley and Ladd McConkey (FridayNightLights), Rashee Rice (Mahomes Alone), DJ Moore (Da Dawg Pound), Baker Mayfield (Da’ Bills), Breece Hall (Dakstreet Boys) and De’Von Achane (NKOTB, season-ending). NKOTB lost three starters in one week. Three concussions league-wide. Fantasy football is a contact sport.
Browns report
Jets 17, Browns 12. The Browns are 3–2.
This was the ultimate trap game, and you could see this result coming from a mile away. It was an ugly, disjointed mess from start to finish.
The Jets had eight sacks, and #2 overall pick David Bailey had three of them. Watson led a go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter for the fourth straight week, but Braelon Allen’s late TD took it away.
Quinshon Judkins was bottled up and left in a walking boot, on the same foot as last year’s dislocated ankle. Raheim Sanders hurt his hip, and the Browns signed Audric Estime off the Vikings’ practice squad. KC Concepcion left with a concussion after a Minkah Fitzpatrick helmet-to-helmet hit, and Isaiah Bond made some plays in his place. This is the same Minkah Fitzpatrick who dove at Nick Chubb’s knee, effectively ending his career. He has to be one of the dirtiest players in the league. I pray that football karma comes his way before he hurts anyone else.
Harold Fannin Jr. had one catch! Denzel Boston (stud) caught his third TD of the year, but when KC went out of the game the offense looked pretty lifeless.
Next up: this weekend is the annual family road trip to see my beloved Brownies take on the Ravens (possibly without Lamar).
What I’m watching in Week 6
- Four teams on bye: Detroit, Minnesota, Cincinnati and Miami. That’s Gibbs, Goff, Amon-Ra, Jameson Williams, LaPorta, Kyler Murray, Jefferson, Aaron Jones, Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Chase Brown, Ollie Gordon and Malik Washington. Mahomes Alone lose their QB, their WR1 and an RB. Check your lineups.
- Five teams at 4–1. Who’s alone at the top after Week 6?
- Does Lamar play in Cleveland, or is it Tyler Huntley again?
- Can Da’ Bills avoid 0–6?
- Jayden Daniels finally starts for FromManningtoMahomes, Monday night in San Francisco.
- The Packers’ deep passing game against a Cowboys defense that just changed coordinators.
- And is CeeDee Lamb’s quad ready to go?
Good luck to everyone in Week 6, and as always GO BROWNS!
